My Story

Fostered in Hampton, NH. UPDATE 2/13/24: “Meet Nova and Ginny! These two cuties are extremely entertaining, and have been enjoying “redecorating” their tank by digging burrows and sinking all of their hides, toys, cardboard tubes and boxes to the bottom. Unlike many other rodents, gerbils are diurnal and most active during the day. Since they have just recently come into foster care, they are still shy about being handled, and if they see you watching when they pop their heads up out of the bedding, they pop right back down. Over time, once they are accustomed to their new situation, they should become more handleable. They are currently in a 20 gallon tank with paper-based bedding, several hides, and lots of cardboard to chew. Because gerbils are chewers and burrowers, a glass tank is preferable housing for them, rather than a cage or anything plastic. They would probably also enjoy a supervised play area such as a deep, clear bin with tunnels, toys and wheels to play in. Gerbils make great pets and can live up to 4 to 5 years.”
