My Story

Please READ MY DESCRIPTION completely. Many of your questions will be answered below. I'm a male yellowbellied slider, an aquatic turtle, in the York, PA, area with transport available to Red Lion, PA, and Baltimore, MD. Shipping is also possible when temperatures allow, but shipping is at least $50. I'm about 10-15 years old and could live for another 10-15years. My person gave me up for adoption because she couldn't care for me anymore. I've been living with a "brother" similar to me, and we could be adopted together if you have a large enough enclosure (75 gallons for both of us, or at least 50 gallons for one of us). However, I have no problem being the only turtle! I'd be a good first turtle if you don't mind a 55-gallon aquarium or Rubbermaid stock tank in the house. I'd like at least a 55-gallon aquarium or 50-gallon Rubbermaid stock tank or even a 50-gallon Rubbermaid tote, with a basking area under a heat and UVB light, good external canister filter or home-made filter, and hide spots. My shell is about 5-6" long, and I'm full grown! My water should be between 72 and 76F, and my basking area should be between 85-95F, and my lights should be on for 14 hours a day, so I think it's summer all year. If you are in southern Maryland or northern VA and have a FENCED-IN backyard pond, I can live there all year if I'm added to the pond during the summer. I'm eating aquatic turtle pellets from Mazuri and ZooMed, but I also like an occasional piece of lettuce or squash. I like insects and plain cocked chicken, too, if you have them. I DO NOT like to be handled, but that's OK, because turtles usually prefer to be looked at rather than picked up. I CANNOT be adopted to Virginia. REQUEST AN ADOPTION APPLICATION from [email protected] - please INCLUDE YOUR CITY AND STATE when contacting MATTS. An application will be e-mailed to you. Once completed, the application can be returned, and if approved, you'll then have to submit pictures of your set-up before picking up a turtle. We meet adopters in central locations such as Fells Point in Baltimore, MD, Parkton, MD, and York, PA, as we foster from our homes and do not have a central shelter. Shipping is possible if temperatures allow, if you're willing to pay for shipping, and if it's legal to have a slider in your state. I AM legal to keep in NJ! Since our adoption contract serves as a receipt, visit https://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/exotic_apps.htm Help spread the word: Don't buy baby turtles from tourist areas, because those little green turtles for sale grow into larger turtles like me! Adoption is an option! Like turtles but can't have one? Want to help? 1) You can share my profile on social media and share www.matts-turtles.org so people can take better care of their turtles and help wild turtles stay wild. 2) MATTS has educational fliers (photos) to share on social media if you email [email protected] to request them. 3) Share our "Monster You Made" video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_935eZl84k on social media. 4) MATTS also accepts tax-deductible donations at MATTS, P.O. Box 341, Highland, MD 20777, or through PayPal or credit card using the yellow Donate tab at http://www.matts-turtles.org/support.html Rescue is funded by donations only, and we find homes for over 100 animals a year. Thank you!
