My Story

Hi! My name is Rigatoni because I am one big noodle! I’m sweet, calm, gentle, quiet and content. My foster dad says I am a lap snake - sweet, large, easy to handle, friendly, curious, and i settle down when you sit with me in your lap. I was signed over to the shelter because my previous owner lost our home and they had no way to get a new place with me on the lease. They loved me, and they tried, but life happened, and let's face it, at a length of over 7 feet, a girth of around 15 inches and I’m 17+ lbs, I'm a big snake which means I require a huge enclosure. My previous person knew that and while he was devastated to do it, he did the right thing by me. Because of my size and the requirements I need to stay happy and healthy, the shelter transferred me to the rescue who helps new snake parents with the education and guidance they need. So what kind of a big snake am I besides an adorable one? I am a Common Boa Imperator but I have been mistaken for a Red Tailed Boa because my tail is so beautiful and I have a pearlescent glow to my scales that is almost reminiscent of a Rainbow Boa. While I am already big, I have the potential to grow up to 9 feet. While in the process of my transition to rescue my age was not given, I am an adult. CBI’s can live as long as 20 to 30 years. With the right diet, habitat, substrate, temperature, and humidity I can live a long and healthy life! And relatively speaking I am pretty low maintenance. As an adult and active boa, I require my own habitat that is big enough to accommodate my size now, and in the future that is secure. My new family must have reptile experience and preferably large snake experience, too. Remember, the rescue team is also here to help you prepare you for taking me home with training, education, and support. I am looking for my forever home with someone who is fully committed to me and has the means to be - could it be with you? If you think we may be a good match, or you would like to get to know me better, please click the Adoption Application button below my bio on the rescue website, here is the link - https://www.smallbreedrescue.org/Home/AnimalDetails/10419 PLEASE NOTE: 1- We can only accept applications from interested parties who are in or near San Diego County, California at this time. 2- We do not ship reptiles but we may be willing to work with you if you are willing to travel if you are still in Southern California. 3- #2 will depend on the animal that you are applying for and is at the discretion of the board of directors.
