My Story

?? Meet Our Red-Tailed Shark - Looking for a New Home! ?? Hello everyone! I’m a Red-Tailed Shark. I came to J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on June 18th, 2024, because my owners were moving and couldn’t take me with them. Adoption Details: In lieu of a set adoption fee, J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue is asking that potential adopters make a donation in my name to help keep the rescue afloat. Your support ensures that animals like me receive the care and love we need. Interested in adopting me? Please fill out an adoption application on our website here: https://www.jraar.org/adoption and let’s find me the perfect new home! About Me: I am a Red-Tailed Shark, known for my striking black body and bright red tail. I am a popular freshwater aquarium fish that adds a vibrant touch to any tank. Care Tips for Red-Tailed Sharks: ? Housing: I need a tank of at least 55 gallons to accommodate my active nature and territorial behavior. ?? Temperature: Maintain a water temperature of 72-79°F. ? Water Quality: Keep the water clean and well-filtered. Regular water changes are essential to maintain high water quality. ? Habitat: Provide plenty of hiding spots with rocks, caves, and plants. This helps reduce stress and mimic my natural environment. ?? Diet: I am omnivorous and enjoy a varied diet of high-quality flake or pellet food, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and vegetable matter. ? Tank Mates: I can be territorial, especially with other fish that have a similar appearance. Ideal tank mates include larger, non-aggressive fish. Avoid other bottom-dwellers and fish with similar coloration. ? Cleaning: Keep my tank clean by removing waste promptly and performing regular water changes. Clean the filter and decorations to prevent any buildup of harmful substances. Lifespan: With proper care, Red-Tailed Sharks can live up to 5-8 years in captivity. Let’s find this vibrant Red-Tailed Shark a new home where they can thrive! ?? #AdoptDontShop #RedTailedSharkLove #RescueFish
