My Story

?? Meet Pixie the Fancy Leopard Gecko - Seeking a Forever Home! ?? Hello everyone! I’m Pixie, a beautiful Fancy Leopard Gecko looking for a loving new home. ? I came to J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on 5/8/24 because my owner didn’t have space for me. I was hatched on 4/29/21, and I’m ready to find a new family who will appreciate my unique personality and care needs. Adoption Details: In lieu of an adoption fee, J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue asks that a donation be made in my name to help keep the rescue afloat. Your generosity ensures that other animals like me receive the care they need. If you're interested in adopting Pixie, please fill out an adoption application on our website here: https://www.jraar.org/adoption and let’s find me a perfect new home! Pixie's Favorites: ?? I’m currently eating crickets and mealworms, and I prefer ZooMed brand calcium powder. I’m not a fan of roaches. ? I have always lived in bioactive enclosures and I am accustomed to loose substrate. ?? I prefer choice-based handling, allowing me to come to you when I’m ready. Care Tips for Fancy Leopard Geckos: ? Habitat: Provide me with a spacious tank, at least 20 gallons, to accommodate my active nature. Since I'm used to a bioactive setup, include live plants, a drainage layer, and a clean-up crew (such as springtails and isopods) to maintain the ecosystem. Ensure there are plenty of hides, branches, and decor to create a stimulating environment. ?? Temperature and Humidity: Maintain a temperature gradient of 75-85°F with a basking spot around 90°F. Nighttime temperatures can drop to 70-75°F. Humidity levels should be kept moderate, around 40-50%. Ensure the enclosure has good ventilation to prevent excessive moisture buildup. ? Lighting: While leopard geckos are primarily nocturnal and don’t require UVB lighting, providing a low-intensity UVB light can benefit overall health. Ensure the enclosure has a natural light cycle with 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness. ?? Diet: Offer a varied diet of crickets and mealworms, dusted with calcium powder (ZooMed brand preferred). Provide fresh, gut-loaded insects to ensure proper nutrition. Feed me 2-3 times a week, offering as much as I can eat in one sitting. Avoid feeding me roaches, as I'm not a fan. ?? Handling and Socialization: I prefer choice-based handling. Allow me to come to you when I’m ready, and handle me gently. Support my body fully and avoid sudden movements to prevent stress. With patience and respect, I can be a calm and rewarding pet. ? Cleanliness: Clean my enclosure regularly, removing waste and uneaten food. Perform a thorough cleaning and substrate replacement every few months to maintain a healthy environment. Bioactive setups require less frequent deep cleaning but ensure regular spot cleaning. ? Enrichment: Enrich my environment with plenty of hiding spots, climbing structures, and naturalistic decor. Providing a varied and stimulating environment will help keep me happy and healthy. Let's find Pixie the perfect forever home where she'll be cherished and well-cared for! ?? #AdoptDontShop #RescueGecko #FancyLeopardGeckoLove
