My Story

Myrtle- the last of the 6 ball pythons that I took in from a neglect case in December. These snakes were intended to be used for breeding, but the owner’s were unsuccessful and ended up giving up on these snakes entirely. I expect they went for several months without food and water. Myrtle was being kept with another snake who sadly had to be humanely euthanized due to a severe spinal deformity and significant complications from starvation. Myrtle was the second most critical of this case, weighing in at less than 700 grams as an adult female ball python (average adult female can weigh anywhere from 1000-1500 grams). She had scale rot (a bacterial infection under her scales) and was severely emaciated and dehydrated. After a very regimented feeding/soaking schedule and some much needed environmental changes Myrtle is finally healthy and ready for adoption, weighing in at 1112 grams! However due to her difficult previous home Myrtle has adapted quite an attitude, and she will let you know when she is unhappy! Ball Pythons are well know to be fairly docile snakes, but Myrtle has a unique personality. She will need a very patient, experienced keeper that will respect her boundaries.
