My Story

Marshmallow came to Reptilia from Provincial Animal Welfare Services (PAWS) after being confiscated from a roadside zoo. Marshmallow, along with some other reptiles underwent parasite testing and vet checks prior to entering Reptilia's adoption program. ENCLOSURE: The bigger the better, but no smaller than 36" x 18" x 18" for an adult. SUBSTRATE: Corn snakes do best with a mixture of substrates that retains humidity, such as soil, sand, mulch and moss. HIDES: Offer ample hiding space with at least one hide on the warm side and one on the cool side. LIGHTING: Corn snakes require a day and night cycle. UVB is not required but there are some benefits of having UVB, such as improving overall health and immune system function. TEMPERATURE & HUMIDITY: 75-80°F on the cool side and 80-85°F on the warm side. Basking spot should be 88-92°F. Humidity levels are best between 30%- 60% DIET: Mice, rats, quail, chicks, and eggs are all good, readily available food options. WATER: Offer fresh water from a dish at all times. SHEDDING: Juveniles and babies will shed more frequently since they are growing quickly. Adults will shed less frequently. During shed the snake may refuse food, and be a little more defensive! TEMPERAMENT: Corn snakes are a very common pet snake, and a fantastic beginner snake! They tend to have a calm temperament. Corn snakes can be very active and tend to move around a lot more than other common pet snakes, such as ball pythons. LIFESPAN: Corn snakes can live up to 25-35 years!
