My Story

I'm a male African mud turtle (an aquatic turtle often called a sideneck turtle) (Pelusios castaneus) for adoption in the Baltimore area with transport available to York and Harrisburg, PA, weekly and to Reston, VA, monthly. I need at least a 55 gallon aquarium with a basking platform, a strong DIY or external canister filter, a water heater, heat light, and UVB light. A 100 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank would be a fabulous enclosure, and stock tanks are cheaper than aquariums of the same size. An underwater cave or artificial plants for hiding would be awesome, too. I eat pellets, but like a treat of an insect or earthworm or plain, cooked meet. I've been a pet for 10 years, so I'm probably about 14-17 years old, with another 10 -20 years to go. I'm for adoption because my person grew up and moved away, and the parents travel too much to care for me. Here's a great book on aquatics, and it can be downloaded FOR FREE https://www.lulu.com/shop/richard-lunsford/captive-care-of-north-american-water-turtles/ebook/product-17551523.html If interested in adoption, please email [email protected] and INCLUDE YOUR CITY AND STATE in the email. You'll need to complete an application, and if approved, send pictures of my enclosure before being approved to adopt. The volunteers at MATTS can meet near downtown Baltimore on week days or in Parkton, MD 21120 on weekends. I can be shipped, but shipping may cost $50-$125, depending on where you live. Like turtles but can't have one? Want to help? 1) You can share my profile on social media and share www.matts-turtles.org so people can take better care of their turtles and help wild turtles stay wild. 2) MATTS has educational fliers (photos) to share on social media if you email [email protected] to request them. 3) Share our "Monster You Made" video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_935eZl84k on social media. 4) MATTS also accepts tax-deductible donations at MATTS, P.O. Box 341, Highland, MD 20777, or through PayPal or credit card using the yellow Donate tab at http://www.matts-turtles.org/support.html Rescue is funded by donations only, and we find homes for over 100 animals a year. Thank you!
