My Story

?? Meet Kevin the Black Pacu - Seeking a Forever Home! ?? Hello everyone! I'm Kevin, an impressive 18-inch long Black Pacu looking for a loving new home. ? I came to J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on 5/4/24 at the Exotic Pet Surrender event in Wisconsin Dells because I outgrew my owner’s 210-gallon tank. My favorite foods are pistachios and walnuts. Adoption Details: In lieu of an adoption fee, J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue asks that a donation be made in my name to help keep the rescue afloat. Your generosity ensures that other animals like me receive the care they need. If you're interested in adopting Kevin, please fill out an adoption application on our website here: https://www.jraar.org/adoption and let’s find me a perfect new home! Care Tips for Black Pacu: ? Tank Setup: Provide Kevin with a very large tank, at least 500 gallons, to accommodate his size and swimming needs. Ensure the tank has a sturdy cover and plenty of space for him to swim freely. Include large decorations like driftwood and rocks to create a natural environment, but leave ample open space. ?? Water Conditions: Maintain the water temperature between 75-82°F with a pH level of 6.0-7.5. Black Pacus prefer slightly acidic to neutral water. Ensure efficient filtration and perform regular water changes to keep the water clean and stable. ? Water Quality: Regularly monitor and maintain high water quality. Perform weekly water changes of 20-30% to keep the environment healthy. Due to Kevin’s size, a powerful filtration system is essential to handle the bioload. ?? Diet: Kevin loves pistachios and walnuts, but a varied diet is important. Offer a mix of fruits, vegetables, nuts, and high-quality pellet foods designed for herbivorous fish. Supplement with occasional treats like algae wafers and leafy greens. ? Lighting: Provide moderate lighting in the tank. Black Pacus enjoy a well-lit environment but appreciate shaded areas to feel secure. Floating plants can help diffuse the light and create a more natural setting. ? Tank Mates: Due to Kevin’s size and potential for growth, he should be kept with other large, peaceful fish that can handle his presence. Avoid keeping him with small or aggressive species. ?? Behavior and Interaction: Black Pacus are known for their friendly and curious nature. Kevin will likely interact with you and his surroundings, making him an engaging pet. Ensure his tank is secure and robust to prevent any accidental damage from his strength. Let's find Kevin the perfect forever home where he'll be cherished and well-cared for! ?? #AdoptDontShop #RescueFish #BlackPacuLove
