I came to J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on 6/1/24 at the Exotic Pet Surrender Event in Beloit. I was surrendered because my owner abandoned me with their ex, who didn’t know how to care for me. Tank Size: Provide me with a spacious tank, ideally 75 gallons or larger. Oscars need plenty of space to swim and grow, as we can reach up to 12-18 inches in length. ?? Water Conditions: Maintain a stable water temperature between 74-81°F. Use a reliable heater and thermometer to ensure the water stays within this range. Keep the pH level between 6.0 and 7.5. ? Filtration: Oscars produce a lot of waste, so a strong filtration system is essential. Perform regular water changes (about 25-30% weekly) to keep the water clean and healthy. ?? Diet: I love to eat frozen fish! My diet should also include a variety of high-quality pellets, live or frozen foods like shrimp, and occasional treats like fruits and vegetables. Feed me 2-3 times a day in small amounts that I can consume in a few minutes. ? Tank Decor: Provide sturdy decorations like rocks and driftwood, as I might rearrange them. Avoid sharp objects that could harm me. Live plants can be added, but choose hardy species that can withstand some nibbling. ? Cleanliness: Regularly clean the tank and remove uneaten food and debris to prevent water quality issues. Monitor water parameters and ensure the tank environment is optimal for my health. ?
