My Story

?? Meet Gus the Red Tail Catfish - Seeking a Forever Home! ?? Hello everyone! I’m Gus, a stunning Red Tail Catfish looking for a spacious new home. ? I was surrendered to J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on 5/23/24 because I got too big for my 55-gallon tank. About Me: I am about 2 feet long and growing! In lieu of a set adoption fee, J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue asks that a donation be made in my name to help keep the rescue afloat. Your generosity ensures that other animals like me receive the care they need. If you're interested in adopting Gus, please fill out an adoption application on our website and let’s find me a perfect new home! Care Tips for Red Tail Catfish: ? Habitat: Provide me with a very large aquarium, at least 1,000 gallons, as I grow very large and need plenty of space to swim. Use a strong filtration system to keep the water clean and well-oxygenated. ?? Water Conditions: Maintain a temperature range of 72-78°F with a pH level between 6.5 and 7.5. Perform regular water changes to keep the environment healthy. ?? Diet: I am a carnivore and thrive on a diet of meaty foods such as fish, shrimp, and sinking pellets. Feed me a varied diet to ensure I receive all the necessary nutrients. ?? Handling and Socialization: While I may not be a pet you handle, it's important to observe me regularly to ensure I’m healthy and active. Avoid sudden movements around the tank to prevent stress. ? Cleanliness: Clean my tank regularly, removing waste and uneaten food. Perform partial water changes weekly to maintain water quality. ? Enrichment: Provide hiding spots and structures in my tank to create a stimulating environment. Use large rocks, driftwood, and other decorations that are safe for a big fish like me. Let's find Gus the perfect forever home where he'll be cherished and well-cared for! ?? #AdoptDontShop #RescueFish #RedTailCatfishLove
