My Story

Coru’s past may be much of a mystery, but we know if she could talk she would have quite the story to tell! We received Coru, along with 8 other turtles from a transfer partner in Denver after over 20 turtles were surrendered from the same home where they were not receiving adequate care. This sweet turtle came to us missing one of her eyes, likely due to an infection she had before we knew her. Her feeding times are lively, as her reduced sight makes it a bit challenging to find her beloved earthworms. Once they come into view however, she will enthusiastically grab her snack! She also loves eating a pre-made blend of all of her favorite foods for easy and convenient feedings. Coru is a confident, friendly, and easy-going boxie, who has attended many education and outreach programs with our volunteer team. She also has beautiful patterning on her carapace (upper shell) and a striking black and yellow plastron (lower shell)! In the fall of 2022, Coru laid two eggs in our care! She may decide to lay more (infertile) eggs in the future and a new home with plenty of substrate to help her feel comfortable and confident to lay her eggs will be essential for her health. She would love a home that is able to provide some outdoor time in the summer and an indoor enclosure at night and in the winter.
