My Story

Please read the description below before contacting MATTS! I am a common snapping turtle for adoption in the Baltimore, Maryland, area. I'm a sub-adult about 9" and four years old. I've been a pet since I was a hatchling. Be aware that snappers get HUGE, and you'll need a 300 gallon stock tank when I'm full grown, if you don't have a pond in an escape-proof pond. For now, a 75 gallon aquarium or 100 gallon stock tank would be a great enclosure for me. I do have a little bit of kyphosis, also known as curvature of the spine, but it doesn't affect my health at all. I'm very active and love to eat, but I DO NOT like to be handled. Our snappers eat Mazuri small aquatic crocadilian pellets, but ZooMed Growth Formula pellets are good, too. They love strawberries or cantaloupe as a treat. Please do not request an application unless you already have an idea of what is needed to properly care for a snapping turtle. A great book for aquatic turtles (and it can be downloaded for free) is https://www.lulu.com/shop/richard-lunsford/captive-care-of-north-american-water-turtles/ebook/product-17551523.html Email [email protected] and INCLUDE YOUR CITY AND STATE in the subject line to request an application. Shipping possible where legal, and if adopter is willing to pay the cost. Turtles under 15lbs are shipped next day via FedEx, and over 15lbs via Delta Dash from airport to airport. Shipping is not cheap.
