My Story

?? Calling all aquarists and fish enthusiasts! ?? Are you looking to add a unique touch to your underwater world? Look no further than the Common Plecostomus! These fascinating suckerfish, also known as Hypostomus plecostomus, hail from the depths of South America and bring both beauty and functionality to any aquarium. Here are some fast facts about these remarkable fish: ? Size: Common plecos can grow up to a whopping 24 inches long, making them quite the impressive addition to your tank. ? Nocturnal: While they may be passive during the day, plecos come alive at night, using their omega iris to navigate and search for food. ?? Peaceful: Known for their calm demeanor, plecos are perfect companions for other peaceful community fish, creating a harmonious underwater environment. ?? Hard Exterior: With their hard plate exterior and spiny fins, plecos are well-equipped to protect themselves from potential predators. ? Tank Mates: These friendly fish can happily coexist with a variety of other peaceful community fish, adding diversity to your aquatic community. ?? Tank Size: Adult plecos require at least 150 gallons of tank space. ?? Water Parameters: Plecos thrive in water temperatures between 75 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, with specific requirements for ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites to ensure optimal health. ?? Diet: As bottom feeders, plecos enjoy munching on algae, but you can also supplement their diet with algae wafers for a well-rounded meal. At J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue, we have a school of Common Plecostomus eagerly awaiting their forever homes.
