My Story

?? Meet Our Assorted XL African Cichlids - Seeking a Forever Home! ?? Hello everyone! We are a vibrant group of assorted XL African Cichlids looking for a loving new home. ? We came to J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on 5/7/24, and we're now ready to find a new family who will appreciate our stunning colors and dynamic personalities. Adoption Details: If you're interested in adopting us, please fill out an adoption application on our website here: https://www.jraar.org/adoption and let’s find us a perfect new home! Care Tips for African Cichlids: ? Habitat: Provide us with a large tank, at least 75 gallons, to accommodate our size and active swimming needs. Ensure the tank has a secure lid and plenty of space for us to swim freely. Include plenty of hiding spots with rocks, caves, and sturdy plants to create territories and reduce aggression. ?? Water Conditions: Maintain the water temperature between 76-82°F with a pH level of 7.8-8.6. African cichlids thrive in hard, alkaline water. Use a good filtration system to keep the water clean and stable. ? Water Quality: Regularly monitor and maintain high water quality. Perform weekly water changes of 20-30% to keep the environment healthy. Use water conditioners to remove chlorine and chloramines from tap water. ?? Diet: We are omnivores and need a varied diet. Offer high-quality cichlid pellets or flakes, supplemented with fresh or frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and vegetables such as spinach and peas. Avoid overfeeding and remove any uneaten food to maintain water quality. ? Lighting: Provide moderate lighting in the tank. We enjoy a well-lit environment to showcase our vibrant colors, but ensure there are shaded areas for us to retreat to when needed. ? Tank Mates: Due to our size and territorial nature, we should be kept with other large, similarly-sized cichlids or compatible fish. Avoid keeping us with small or overly aggressive species. Provide plenty of hiding spots and territory markers to reduce aggression. ?? Behavior and Interaction: African cichlids are known for their lively and sometimes territorial behavior. We will likely interact with you and our surroundings, making us an engaging and colorful addition to your aquarium. Ensure our tank is secure and robust to handle our active nature. Let's find these beautiful African Cichlids the perfect forever home where they'll be cherished and well-cared for! ?? #AdoptDontShop #RescueFish #AfricanCichlidLove
