My Story

I am a common snapping turtle for adoption in the Baltimore, Maryland, area. I'm a small adult about 10" and an estimated 10 years old. I've been a pet since I was a hatchling. Be aware that snappers get HUGE, and you'll need a home-made indoor pond or 300 gallon stock tank or a pond in a FENCED yard when I'm full grown. For now, a 75 gallon aquarium or 100 gallon stock tank (included in the pictures) would be a great enclosure for me. I'm active and love to eat, but I DO NOT like to be handled. I'll also need a basking area (yes, we need a basking area under a heat light), a strong canister filter or DIY "Skippy" filter, and UVB light. Our snappers eat Mazuri small aquatic crocodilian pellets, but ZooMed Growth Formula pellets are good, too. They love strawberries or cantaloupe as a treat. Please do not request an application unless you already have an idea of what is needed to properly care for a snapping turtle. A great book for aquatic turtles (and it can be downloaded for free) is https://www.lulu.com/shop/richard-lunsford/captive-care-of-north-american-water-turtles/ebook/product-17551523.html Email [email protected] and INCLUDE YOUR CITY AND STATE in the subject line to request an application. Shipping possible where legal, and if adopter is willing to pay the cost. Turtles under 15lbs are shipped next day via FedEx, and over 15lbs via Delta Dash from airport to airport. Shipping is not cheap. I come with a no trade, no sale, no breeding adoption contract and I will be notched for ID. I cannot be adopted to NY unless you have a DEC permit. I cannot be adopted to WV, CA, or OR.
