Merida has not had the easiest journey in life, but we are committed to ensuring that things are better for her from here on out :)
Abandoned in an apartment when her previous "guardians" moved out, Merida found herself alone and afraid. She was found by a Good Samaritan who took her to our friends at Wildlife Rescue, Inc.
Clearly not a wild bun, Merida needs were different than that of the rabbits for whom WLR normally cares. When they asked if Luna's House would take Merida into our adoption program, told us her story and how fearful she was, we welcomed her with open arms.
We believe Merida--named after the heroine in the movie "BRAVE"--is approximately 2.5 to 3 years of age as of June 2023. We gave Merida her name to encourage her to embrace her inner strength and bravery...and she is certainly working on that! We love Merida's "helicopter" ears and her pronounced dewlap, both of which give her a look all her own.
Though she remains a skittish lass, Merida is slowly becoming the confident bun we know she can be. She will need a patient, gentle home with folks who understand that her honks and lunging are fear-based, and not at all aggressive. She is truly a sweetheart who just needs time and the love of a rabbit-savvy family to flourish. Merida would not be a candidate for a home with children, as we believe she may have been mistreated by human kids in the past :(
If you would be interested in adopting a rabbit from Luna's House, please take a moment to fill out an online application: https://www.lunashouse.org/php_email_form/formphp.html
Once we have received and approved your completed application, we can schedule a time for you to come meet with rabbits available for adoption to see with whom you have the best connection. Our adoption fee for a single rabbit is $75. This is a donation meant to help us cover part of the cost of caring for the animal you are adopting while (s)he is with us, including veterinary exam, spay or neuter surgery, deworming, RHDV2 vaccination, microchip, food, bedding, etc.
Merida has been vaccinated against RHDV2.
