My Story

Education Post: Dotty is a large rex lady weighing in at approx. 8.6 lbs. She is skittish of being handled. She does not like being picked up or held. She prefers to do zoomies without interference during her playtime hours. Rexes tend to gain weight easily. It is important to keep rabbits at a healthy weight to prevent sore hocks. Plenty of exercise outside of a large private bedroom space or exercise pen provides enrichment and stimulation. Buns need daily handfuls of quality timothy hay and a large crock of fresh water to stay hydrated. Background: A good Samaritan helped Dotty's mother transition to a safe indoor home. Along came a litter that included Dotty. Brook-Falls Veterinary Hospital in Menomonee Falls did Dotty's spay at 5 1/2 months of age. Think financial costs of a quiet companion pet like a rabbit for 10-12+ years. DVM visits and/or comprehensive appts for any illness concerns - plus an Annual RHVD2 booster. Recognize gut stasis symptoms. We will do Courtesy Listings for rabbits needing a lifelong home. No Out-of-the-area adoptions. 2022-2023: Dotty - due to challenging behaviors - will stay with her caregiver. She is Sanctuary Status with lifetime care. A pass-the-bunny scenario is not suited for any vulnerable companion pet learning to trust.
