My Story

This horse is part of a special training event called the Appalachian Trainer Face Off. You can learn about it on Facebook and on our website. Horses in this training event are adoptable following 100+ days of training in August at www.appalachiantrainerfaceoff.com Adoption fees may be outdated, as a horse may have moved into training, so check us on most current fee. Horses typically adopted UTD on vaccines, dental floats, farrier care and all vet needs. Horse Locations Typically in Appalachia, but please inquire about a horse's specific location when you apply! We are looking to adopt to safe homes. A history of good horsemanship, the ability to provide sufficient care with good vet, farrier and peer references are important. If you are a first time horse owner, we will require you to board at a facility for the first year while you learn more about care. We encourage everyone to take advantage of riding lessons. Foal adoptions require previous, established experience with youngsters. Our adoption process makes sure you get the right horse for you – it is a no fail process for finding the right match. Apply at https://wvhorserescue.org/adopt He WANTS TO BE YOUR FRIEND!!! Super friendly and sweet (to me and other people) Easy to catch and halter Stands tied, for the farrier, grooming, saddling, bridling, mounting etc Walks, trots, and canters under saddle Gaits are comfortable to ride Very thoughtful and thinks his way through challenges Gives good hugs Confident with obstacles Tries really hard for me EASY GOING Stands still Easy to deworm Tail is growing out trailer loading is improving and will continue to work on his confidence Working on teaching him what the reins mean and getting lightness Still doesn’t care for fly spray but working on getting him to accept it more Working on his willingness to go forward and it’s improving He greets me at the gate ready to work with a whinny I can’t say enough good things about this special guy. He is approximately 6 years old and measures between 14.0 and 14.1 hands. June 30, 2024 He's still a green bean, but HOP Team Theodore went to our very first show!!! Our goal was just to get exposure and experience with a new show environment. Theodore far exceeded our expectations. He handled the new, loud, busy environment extremely well. His great mind and good nature shone through so bright. He is the first horse in a long time that I can honestly say that I trust to not do anything dangerous. Theo’s trailer loading has improved. He stood tied to the trailer quietly with and without the other wonderful pony that went with us. He rode around the show grounds with curiosity. He met new friends, horse and human. And he completely WOWED me in our Ranch Pleasure Walk Trot class. I’m not kidding when I say that he is GREEN. We hadn’t even practiced the difference between normal trot and extended trot. He absolutely nailed it! And his STOP, whew! I was so proud of his confidence, transitions, and purity of gait in the class. Theodore has never disappointed me when I present him with a new challenge. We are so blessed to get to know him and spend time with him. He's got all the makings to be a fantastic kid's 4h horse! Someone is going to be very lucky to adopt him this fall!
