TRAINING:
This horse is part of a special training event called the Appalachian Trainer Face Off. You can learn about it on Facebook and on our website. Horses in this training event are adoptable following 100+ days of training in August.
She is currently in training with Ashley Francese and you can follow her progress: #hopteamseven
Seven is smart and curious and has a LOVELY trot and canter. She is starting to meet her trainer at the gate, ready to work.
In the last 30 days we’ve worked hard on the following skills:
? Standing tied
? Leading calmly
? Sending L and R
? Yielding hips and shoulders L and R
? Side-pass L and R
? Head down on command
? Wearing an English saddle, pad, a western saddle blanket and a surcingle
? Backing up
? Ground tying
? Standing to be groomed (she loves being pampered)
? Standing for fly spray
? Letting me stand in one eye (including work with whips, flags, tarps and ropes)
? Roping a dummy and dragging it toward her
? Trailer loading
? Lifting her feet on command
? Working with her from another horse
So, what type of home is the best for Seven of Nine?
She’s a sweetheart and bonds closely with her person, so a knowledgeable horse person, who is patient and kind would do best with her. I definitely think she’ll do best as a one person horse, because she’s nervous with new people. Ideally, I would love to work with her adopter with her, while we prepare her to go home at the end of August.
She’s 2, about 14.3hh currently (obviously still growing), and has 3 lovely gaits. She has a very natural lead change in the field and a canter that is to die for. She is supposed to be a TWH/ QH, but I have never seen her gait. Seven has very hunterish movement with very flat knees. I could see her being a rocking pleasure driving horse too.
She is not mareish at all. She’s sweet and kind. Enjoys working regularly, but can also sit between sessions. Right now she’s out with a mixed herd and doing well. She tends to settle nicely into the middle of the herd and let others lead.
Seven loves doing obstacles and roping in hand, and I think she’ll love a job that keeps her mentally active.
Adoption fees may be outdated, as a horse may have moved into training, so check us on most current fee. Horses typically adopted UTD on vaccines, dental floats, farrier care and all vet needs.
Horse Locations Typically in Appalachia, but please inquire about a horse's specific location when you apply!
We are looking to adopt to safe homes.
A history of good horsemanship, the ability to provide sufficient care with good vet, farrier and peer references are important. If you are a first time horse owner, we will require you to board at a facility for the first year while you learn more about care. We encourage everyone to take advantage of riding lessons.
Foal adoptions require previous, established experience with youngsters.
Our adoption process makes sure you get the right horse for you – it is a no fail process for finding the right match. Apply at https://wvhorserescue.org/adopt
