My Story

Rosa is a draft and Paint cross who came to Longmeadow from a situation of neglect. Upon her arrival, we immediately noticed a scar on her left hind leg. After a vet exam, it was diagnosed as an old injury, leaving Rosa restricted to being ridden only at a walk and on flat ground. She would be comfortable living in a pasture with rolling hills, but no steep inclines. Dont let this sway your opinion of this big, beautiful mare! Rosa is a gem. We have nicknamed her the babysitter of Longmeadow, as her gentle but firm demeanor has been the perfect match for our younger horses out in the pasture. She gets along with most of our equine but does tend to be on the lower end of the pecking order, so we think she would do best in a herd with horses similar in temperament to Miss Rosa. Since Rosa came to Longmeadow with extreme dental neglect, she does require dental exams every 6 months by a veterinarian. She stands very well for the vet, so these visits are not a problem! Because of her age, she will require a senior grain, like Purinas Equine Senior, to supplement her hay and pasture grazing. Rosa is great with children and enjoys the company of humans in general. She stands tied very well and loves any attention she can get. Our trainers, staff, and volunteers enjoy doting upon Rosa, but she enjoys it even more. Rosa will stand like a statue to be groomed, petted, and loved by anyone who is willing to spare her the time. She is easy to catch in the pasture and easy to lead on the ground. She wears a UV protection fly mask when turned out to protect the white skin around her eye and has no problem with us putting this mask on or taking it off. Rosa would do best with an intermediate handler and would make the perfect lead line horse for your family members!
