My Story

Plucky is a beautiful, stocky paint mare who can be slow to trust and warm up but when she does is the sweetest, kindest girl you will meet. She has struggled with anxiety and pushiness in the past but has worked through that, though some may return with a change so an adopter should be prepared to give her time and patience if needed. She had a laminitis episode the fall of 2023, which she has recovered from and her x-rays showed minimal rotation. Given her body type and the laminitis, she was tested for insulin resistence, thyroid issues and Cushings. The Cushings test showed an elevated level that could be considered normal for the time of year, but give the overall picture her vets do recommend treating her as if she has Cushings with both diet and Prascend. Plucky is likely trained to ride, though it has been several years since she's been asked to do anything. If she remains at GSH we will be evaluating her more to see if she's good for lead line as she really shows an affinity for children. Plucky did have a leg injury many years before intake, and has occasional lameness, but for the most part it doesn't affect her much. She ultimately would likely be best suited as a pasture pal. Plucky and Vanessa have had a friendship for a few years now, and have similar issues. We'd love to see them go to a retirement home together.
