My Story

Rescued from auction. Update from February 20th: he is actually coming along nicely as far as approaching people. He will now take treats out of my hand. For this reason we didn't push him to try to halter him and put him through the ringer. The vet was able to feed him a treat and the short glimpse she got of his teeth she thinks about 15yo on him...but that was from a quick look. I pointed out what he does with picking up his left leg. She said her top 2 rule outs are old injury or possibly shivers. I've watched several videos and I'm also leaning towards shivers. It's a progressive neurological disease but it's best managed with 24 hour turn out, vitamin E and selenium supplements. So far it's only effecting his 1 rear leg. Because lifting of the leg is more of a spasm it's possible sedation may be needed to help facilitate farrier trims for human safety. He is now walking up to me within about 4 ft sniffing and being curious. Reportably, once haltered he is fine. But I would rather him willingly accept halter so we haven't tried that.
