NIGHTINGALE

Nightingale came to us as a rescue in March of 2019 and was in desperate need of our help. She was underweight and had overgrown hooves. Her rehabilitation began the day she came through our barn doors, and she had a quick turnaround! Once she was brought back to health, she was evaluated and then started in our training program. Before we knew it, she was being ridden outside on trails and was even hauled to a few local shows! Her training paid off and she was adopted out in 2020. Unfortunately, Nightingale was returned a couple of years later when her adopter felt they were no longer a good match for each other. Upon her return to the Ranch, we put Nightingale back into our training program and continued to work with her both on the ground and under saddle. However, in the summer of 2023, Nightingale developed what we thought were seasonal allergies. After a course of antihistamines she recovered briefly, but then began to cough again while she was being worked. Nightingale was seen by multiple vets who suggested quite a few rounds of different medications to figure out the root cause of these consistant allergy symptoms. After months of constant relapsing, however, our vets finally diagnosed Nightingale with heaves. We were upset at the loss of such a great potential riding horse, but glad we had an answer. We knew the right thing to do was make this beautiful girl a pasture pet. Now, Nightingale spends her days out in our fields with her equine friends and is no longer on any medications, since her symptoms seem to lessen when she isn't being worked. Nightingale could also potentially be adopted as a lead line horse for children, but her adopter should be aware that any work could make her symptoms relapse, and if her symptoms do come back after she is adopted, they should work with their vet to determine a treatment plan. Nightingale is a sweet mare with lots of personality. She gets along well with other horses and tends to be in the middle of the pecking order in her herd.
