My Story

June is a cautious but quiet 13-year-old Quarter Horse mare, registered name Miss Quincy Shield. She's about 15 hands tall and on the lean side. June is cautious about being caught but good to handle when she is. June has been working on giving her feet quietly so she can go in for a lameness exam, as she has occasional lameness on a front foot that we suspect is a bit of ringbone. X-rays are needed to figure out what's going on and what can be done, and if shoes or injections would help. We find she does best in a smaller herd with less running, but are hopeful that with the right support she could still do light riding with training. We would, however, accept a Pasture Pal / Companion home for her, for someone willing to become her friend and provide her with a home to live out her life without expectations and support her foot. June came to GSH as part of a large seizure of horses from Kingsbury County, South Dakota. June is an intelligent, stocky mare with good confirmation. While she is still learning to trust humans, she would make an excellent horse for the person who has the time to bond and work with her.
