Holy Nelly

Holy Nelly, that’s what I’m calling her. I picked up this aged donkey who is supposedly pregnant. She looks like she’s in foal but it could also be worms. It will take a little while before she trusts us to get a halter on her. To get her into the trailer, we made a shoot so she went in easily. When I got back to the rescue and open the trailer door, she did not want to come out. I went in and tried to put the halter on her. I had the rope on her neck then she would put her head down. almost to the floor. I had to get her out with the rope around her neck. She managed to drag me down the barn isle and went into a stall. She is comfortable in there with food and water and fresh shavings and straw. Being an “aged” Jenny, I really think she has had a halter on but she has had a pretty horrible journey for the past eight months. It must have been traumatic her. She has no reason to think we are any different than the people she’s come across lately. Her Coggins said she was at a livestock auction in May 2023 in Nebraska. How many auctions has she gone through? How many horses did she meet and lose anong the way. Why should she try and think she is staying here and getting fed daily? We have to prove to her, slowly and kindly. Holy Nelly's future is up to us. She will be available for adoption once we get her healthy.
