Folley - The Chunkin Pumpkin

ADOPTABLE PUMPKIN ALERT This chunky lady is searching for her perfect home! Folley, affectionately known around the farm as "the Chunkin Punkin" is everyone's favorite little red mare. She is sweet, sound, sensitive, and ready to find her person! FOLLEY'S BACKGROUND In August of 2019, she was rescued by the CARE Animal Sanctuary along with 21 other horses. Read about the rescue here: https://www.carefarmsanctuary.org/22-horse-rescue Folley began her rehabilitation at the CARE sanctuary, then went to a foster home in December of 2019. She did well there, getting lots of attention from the family & their kids. She ended up back at the rescue in 2020, through no fault of her own. In August of 2021, she came to Steph K Equestrian in hopes of finding her a great forever home! Folley has learned a lot since her arrival! Her education has been 100% R+ (clicker training, fear-free). Her list of behaviors includes: - Haltering - Leading (with halter, off a target, or off body language/at liberty) - Nose targeting (target stick & hand targets) - Stationary targeting (at a cone, mat, or bucket) - Body handling (for brushes, petting, vet, etc.) - Reverse roundpen (walk with speed adjustments, some trot) - "Go around" (a barrel or pole) - "Go jump" (over a ground pole between standards) - Veterinary handling (checking eyes, ears, nose, teeth/mouth, teats, etc.) - Cooperative injections (IV & IM) - Cooperative oral medications (via syringe, though she will eat anything you bring her if it's in a bucket & resembles food!) - Cooperative eye drops/ointments - Trailer loading (both ramp & step up; turning to walk off & backing off) Folley has an amazing foundation! As we've worked with her, we've learned that she is incredibly smart & sensitive. She is very social and clings to "her person" during training. She doesn't like switching between people and has had her heart broken too many times as people come and go. She's so ready for a person to come into her life & stay - and she very much deserves that!! Folley craves stability & gets stressed when herd dynamics shift. She does great in a stable herd but will become anxious if herd members come & go. Yet another reason this girl needs & deserves to get out of the rescue industry & into a forever home <3 FOLLEY'S HEALTH HISTORY Folley was estimated to be 5 years old when she was first rescued, making her around 9 now. Other than being emaciated & malnourished, Folley's only notable issue was a scar on the cornea of her left eye. It certainly doesn't block her vision altogether, but it's likely that her vision is impaired on that side. Folley is approx, 14.1 hh and an EASY keeper (as you can tell by her pumpkinlike stature). No, she is NOT pregnant - we promise!! She's been checked, and she's only been around mares & geldings for over a year! Folley is nervous with strange farriers. She much prefers to have me trim her at liberty than to be restrained while a stranger trims her feet. We're continuing to build her confidence with new people & haltered trimming, but she will be most successful with someone who can help continue this training with a kind, patient farrier and/or trim her themselves. She has great feet & does manage nicely when left to "self-trim." Folley has not had any lameness issues since I have known her - she is sound & healthy. The only time we have had the vet look at her is to recheck her eye. She doesn't need any regular maintenance and might never need any, but she is trained to do a wonderful cooperative eye drop behavior just in case! We have given her neopolydex ointment, to see if it would help the cornea scar fade, and she was wonderful & easy to handle for it. The scar did not change, though, and is likely there to stay.
