Zucchini

Zucchini is a gentle, snuggly, happy, 11-year-old Aussie Mix. He's sure to make you smile, between his fabulous personality and perfectly quirky appearance (he looks like someone stuck a Chihuahua's head on a child's drawing of a cloud). Zucchini has lived with and loved young children, cats, kittens, and other dogs, and he's housetrained! Zucchini is a soft little poof of joy. He lifted our spirits, but so did the man who brought him to us. Zucchini had been living with an elderly man. About a year ago, a neighbor realized that the man was struggling, so, despite working two jobs and having very few resources of his own, this neighbor made it a point to walk Zucchini every day and scrape together whatever money he could to help buy Zucchini food. And when Zucchini's owner passed away and nobody in his family stepped up to care for him, this neighbor took Zucchini in. He did his homework -- despite not having a phone or computer, he found Animal Aid and explained that Zucchini deserves so much more than the few minutes of time he can spend with him between his day and night jobs. He explained that he doesn't have the resources to meet Zucchini's basic nutrition, grooming, and veterinary care needs. So, after thoroughly checking us out and making sure we would take good care of Zucchini, this man said a tearful goodbye. This man had very little, and absolutely no obligation to help, yet he gave everything he had to set Zucchini on the path that leads home.
