My Story

!!! AVAILABLE for Adoption* and Love Local Partners at ACCT Philly !!!*with medical and behavior waiverZELDA fka Bella - A42910899Intake Type: 3/29 Return after 4 months - Reactive BehaviorWeight: 73lbsVideo:Zelda loves squeaky toys! -- https://youtu.be/n1LsXE2xf3wZelda catching treats! -- https://youtu.be/6B99cKeqJGoZelda hanging out in the office -- https://youtu.be/Y17Q5MhE_lQDog meets:Bella and Popcorn: https://youtu.be/kc5m9GMw7qQMedical Observation:(4/28) Vet Check -- Between toes mild-moderately erythematous on dorsal and ventral aspects, gets progressively pinker the more she gets worked up. No ulceration or moist dermatitis, no salivary staining or evidence of secondary infection. Suspect in part due to allergic skin disease, but also component of excitability that contributes to erythema. Really dislikes having feet touched. All nails look long, but quicks are also very long. Has a history of being challenging for nail trims per owner surrender sheet, and trimming nails was what prompted bites in more than one occasion. Trimmed nails today, required three people, leash muzzled and mostly laying her down on side. Quicked multiple nails despite only trimming small amount due to length of quicks. Behaviorally fought and thrashed whenever you tried to touch her feet (not able to do this in a fear free positive way) but once we were done and unmuzzled no redirection of behavior and responded very well to peanut butter treat.Recommend walking patient on concrete or pavement regularly to naturally file down nails and push quicks back.(3/31)Vet Check - Older adult spayed female pup with suspected allergies contributing to pinnal and scleral hyperemia and skin. Owner reports was seen at a vet for allergies and anxiety and did receive an allergy shot and anxiety meds (exact medication not written). Initial surrendering owner in October reported aggression towards other dogs, recent surrendering owner reports aggression towards people with reactivity towards strangers on walks, bit vet twice at previous hospital and bit roommate when helping to trim her nails - none of the bites broke skin. Very excitable in shelter, hard-barking in kennel and has previous history here of deteriorating kennel presentation/behavior. History of bites with nail trims and owner reported that was unable to have nails trimmed at vet due to behavior, after quicking one nail discontinued attempts to trim, quicks are very long. Will start Trazodone for behavior and needs additional enrichment and exercise if possible. Obese and would also benefit from weight-loss plan.(11/21) Vet Check- 7 yo FS pittie with recurrence of happy tail that was treated 2-3 weeks ago. She is also experiencing declining kennel behavior which is worsening the happy tail. Her happy tail was healing with carprofen and trazodone however she has worsened it today and needs to be restarted on meds. Is sweet when outside of kennel but her tail is deteriorating due to stress in shelter. Behaviorally urgent. Needs promotion to rescue, foster, or adoption to quiet environment where tail can heal.(11/14) Spayed and Microchipped(11/06) Happy tail resolved. Removed e-collar (10/26) Happy tail, being treated for otitis externa.(10/16) Overweight.Behavior Observation: 4/21- Easy to leash, pulls moderately outside. Urinated and defecated on our walk. Aloof and shows little interest in handler when in the play yard. Not interested in toys or treats. Barked, growled, and lunged at another dog walking past at a distance of about 20-30 feet. Easy to return to kennel.(3/31) Vet Staff -- Kennel-side hard barking at gate but vet nurse reports relative ease in leashing and removing from kennel. In exam room did jump up and lightly mouth vet's hand but seemed more excited than aggressive. Muzzled for exam due to history of aggression and reactivity and did flail a bit throughout exam.(3/29) Adoptive Owner -- Nervous, calm, aggressive to strangers, house trained most of the time, fights with other dogs, jumps on people, destructive--chews things, barks at other dogs and people, snaps at people, snaps at animals, aggressive--will jump/snap and bite if feels threatened, comes when called, hyperactive, good with cat (seems intimidated by cat). She only bites/snaps when afraid. She is very afraid of other dogs and people, which makes walks difficult in the city. Whenever she is approached by strangers or by other dogs, she will react and sometimes snap at them. One example the owner gave was when people stop her on the street and try to pet her or reach towards her, the dog will jump up and snap at their face. She sits when she is calm, she knows paw. When she is calm she is a good dog.She has snapped at people/animals before, but there were 3 bite incidents: first one, owner was walking dog, a random person walked by and she jumped up and bit his hand--the guy didn't approach her, it was a random bite. Second time was at vet - bit vet's hand twice. Recent incident on 3/28: dog bit the roommate while roommate and owner were trying to trim her nails. None of the bites broke skin(11/21) Vet Staff -- sniffing around exam room, excited and happy to give kisses(10/26) Vet staff -- BAR! Friendly but reactive when injured tail touched.(10/24) Behavior staff -- Went to after school program with cafeteria full of elementary school kids. Stayed loose, calm, and mildly attention seeking. Interacted very well with all the kids and allowed a long line of kids to pet her one by one. Settled down nicely in the car ride to and from the event. (10/18) Volunteer Evaluation -- Ducked a few times when attempting to leash but then was eventually able. Wiggling and tail wagging in kennel. No pulling. Walks very slowly. Loose and allows all handling. Loves pets. Tried to jump in lap. Gives kisses. Zero issues with petting head, back, tail, and feet. No interest in tag or toys at this time. Had a good fence meet with another dog. Evaluated Green.(10/16) Vet Staff -- Playful(10/16) Per Previous Owner -- Owned for 6.5 years. Protective, active, comes when called, nervous, good with people, good with children of all ages. Aggressive towards other dogs. This animal is currently available through ACCT Philly's Adoptions Programs.
