My Story

Please contact Lowell Nelson ([email protected]) for more information about this pet.is not remote Canadian province! is sweet puppers! YUKON NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!! Come meet Yukon and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (Aug. 4th) from 12-3 pm at the Petsmart in Alexandria (3351 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22305)! Name: Yukon Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd and Labrador Retriever mix Best Guess for Age: 1.5 years as of June 2024 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 56 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested. Currently Living at: DC area foster home Special adoption considerations: Yukon is a truly Lucky Dog! He tested positive for Heartworm disease but has already been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the adoption counseling process. Yukon is Looking For: His forever home! This sweet pup is pretty young and hasn't seen nearly enough of the world yet. He's eager to have his own humans for long sniffy walks, romps in the park, and all the adventures they can dream up. He'd love to make new pup and people pals along the way. Shelter staff say he's such a nice dog and still has that awesome loving puppy vibe.Yukon has a lot to offer - adoring gazes, big tail wags, and loyal companionship. What do you say? Can you see him trotting by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: Yukon has been really blossoming in home environment . His anxiety has eased a lot, he has made a lot of progress with separation anxiety as well. He is really good in a car, he is really good on a leash, he is really good off leash at dog parks. He is very friendly with all people and dogs, but really just wants to be with his person if he has a choice. He learns a lot and quickly, especially being treats motivated, but he also just wants to please his person and will do his best to achieve that. He is very flexible with energy levels, he will play if you want to play with him, he will nap next to you if you're busy, or he can chew his toy or bone, keeping himself busy. All he cares in his life about is his person, and he just wants to spend his time with his person. He just wants to be with you and next to you, that's all he cares about. With his puppy energy and inquisitiveness, he'll do best in a home with structure, mental stimulation and exercise to keep on the right track! Recent 'dog day out' notes: Yukon and I had a lovely day full of walks, playing in the backyard and sleeping on the couch! He didn't have much interaction with other dogs aside from seeing them in the distance, and his interactions with humans were good. We worked on not jumping to say hello, but he still will need some work with that. He got a little mouthy while playing, but when you gave him a toy that stopped! He walked with minimal pulling on the leash and did great in the car! Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
