My Story
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to hug a polar bear?
Well, wonder no more, meet Yuki!!!
Yuki means “snow” in Japanese and this boy is as unique as every snowflake and can’t help but put a smile on your face with his personality.
We don’t know much about Yuki and his previous life.
We do believe that at some point he did have a human. He adores people and craves love and attention, he is an expert hugger. Yuki wants nothing more than to be loved.
Because his past is unknown to us, he does have some quirks but they are manageable.
For example, he is hesitant to walk down a busy street. With lots of encouragement, he musters up his polar bear strength and works through his fear.
Yuki would benefit from being in a home that is familiar with his breed.
We believe Yuki is a Great Pyrenees/Malamute mix,
Estimated to be approximately 2 years old, he’s still a young guy with an “old soul” who has many years left of loving his perfect family.
Yuki doesn’t mind his crate.
Yuki does not appear to be 100% potty trained, yet he does keep his crate neat and tidy. He currently wears a belly band, just in case. We do think that this should resolve in time, as he gets to know your routine.
He knows when it’s time to eat and he goes to his “house” and waits for his meal to be served.
Yuki is a large dog at 70 lbs and we are working on fattening him up since he is about 20 lbs underweight. When we saved him from the shelter, he was fighting a severe URI, which we have been treating and he is improving daily.
This gentle giant enjoys bursts of energy and can keep up with some of the fastest dogs at the park. Yuki would probably enjoy a yard but is also content and happy in an apartment, as long as he gets plenty of walks and playtime.
Yuki loves to learn. He is motivated by attention (not so much food). He learned his basic commands by seeing how much praise the resident dog in his foster home was receiving.
He wanted the same attention and learned quite quickly.
We meant it when we said he is as unique as a snowflake.
Yuki is dog and cat friendly. He enjoys playing with dogs and will correct over stimulated dogs several times, he has a lot of patience but prefers to play with dogs that are socialized well.
We would suggest a home with older kids due to his size, or parents who understand his breed and can work with him because, unfortunately, he thinks he is a lap dog.
There is something truly special about Yuki and that “something” was in his shelter photo when he landed him self on the dreaded “EU” list. Whatever it is, it’s magical, it’s the love and patience in his eyes, it’s the way he looks at his people with unconditional love.
Yuki is a snowflake that lands on your nose and just makes your heart smile.
Yuki is currently being fostered in Texas but available to transport to approved adopter in the Midwest, Northeast and Canada.
