My Story

Meet Yoda! He’s an 80 pound GSD/mix with a personality like sunshine - and boy is he SMART. At just 2 years old, he loves football, snuggles on the couch, chasing bees and being with his favorite humans. He is currently doing great in obedience training and impressing everyone. He loves every person he meets; however, Yoda can be reactive when he meets other dogs. He did so well when tested with other dogs at the shelter and also with his foster's dog, but now he seems to prefer being an only dog. However, with some training and slow introductions, that behavior may be managed and/or modified. He needs patience, positive reinforcement and a fenced in backyard where he can exercise and show off his fetching skills. His foster mom wrote the message below about Yoda: "Yoda is an affectionate, sweet boy. He is a quick learner and already knows how to sit, fetch, and use our doggie door. Yoda is good with his toys and the ball, and doesn’t seem possessive at all. He loves throwing his stuffed dog around and around. He is perfectly balanced in that he will play, but also relax. He loves being close to his humans and will follow us from room to room. He has been great with our kids and anyone new to our home(as we have other children in and out). Yoda goes into his kennel easily for the adults and kids in our home and without prompting when tired. He sleeps in his kennel and doesn’t budge until you enter the room, and then his tail shows his happiness. We love that he rarely barks and is overall quiet. He has not had any bathroom accidents in our home or his kennel which has been the biggest surprise. Yoda sometimes forgets how big he is with humans and dogs, but has been easily redirected with the command down and use of hand gestures. He is learning to walk on a leash, but whines and pulls when he sees other dogs, animals and people. Otherwise, he would like to be a lap dog. Our family of 4 (kids ages 11 & 13) have really enjoyed him and his loving personality. " Regarding Yoda's vetting, he is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. His caretakers will gladly provide a dog crate and dog food for anyone who can foster Yoda and he also comes with a collar, leash, harness, toys and dog bed.
