My Story

Meet Yancy! From his previous foster: Yancy is a shy yet gentle boy who loves to work with his person. He is mellow yet observant and loves opportunities to use his brain. His favorite activities include foraging for raspberries, running around the backyard, and using a snuffle mat. He sleeps through the night in his crate and will happily doze off close to you if you are working on a project outside or around the house. He has had no accidents in the house. He has shown potential to excel with activities like nose work (mushroom hunting, anyone?). He knows a handful of cues (crate, wait, sit, down, chin, leave it, find it, come, unload [getting out of car], free [release cue]) and loves a good training session. When he is familiar with an environment, he walks fantastic on a harness (loose leash and no pulling) and enjoys being able to sniff everything that he can. Yancy is fearful and is working on building confidence when in new environments, whether that's a new room in the house or being taken to a downtown area of a city. Though he is unsure about a lot of new people, places, and things, he has shown great recovery time and is getting more confident by the day. He is food motivated (he loves chicken and cheese) and responds to verbal praise as well. It takes some time for him to warm up to people but once he trusts you, he rarely leaves your side. Yancy is being fostered with multiple cats and will leave them be when instructed; however, Yancy would do best in a cat-free home or with someone who is dedicated on continuing to work on neutrality when around cats, as he has shown interest in chasing them when they run. He has also shown interest in chasing small animals like squirrels and rabbits. He plays well with other dogs his size or bigger, and would do best in a home with a patient, older dog pal who can play gently and show him the ropes. Now that Yancy has come back to the farm, he’s coming out of his shell even more. He plays well with many dogs, sleeps on the floor near me all night, and greets new people. He still needs time but is getting more comfortable each time. Yancy is a sweet, smart and fun pup and will make someone a wonderful companion!
