My Story
LOOKING FOR THAT SHOT GUN-RIDE OR DIE KINDA DOG?
Well you just found her. This girl is the whole package. A great mind. A great size. Good balanced energy. Confident and curious and ready to go when you are, no matter what the day brings.
We pulled Yahtzee from the local shelter when her face appeared on a transfer list. We went down to have a look and absolutely fell in love. So will you.
What a great dog this girl is.
Yahtzee is about 12 months old, weighs 50lbs and should not get any bigger unless you over feed her, which would be a real shame because she is such an athlete. Built for fun, with a good balanced energy and a mind that loves to learn about new things and places, she is the perfect friend to go through life with.
We cannot say for sure, what breeds combined to make this great all-around girl but we suspect some herding, some terrier, perhaps some chihuahua, since it is the predominant stray in this area and maybe some shepherd? Whatever the combo, it aligned to give her a great, easy to take along size, gorgeous Cleopatra eyes, a short hardy, easy care coat, an easy-going temperament and a wiggle butt that never stops wiggling.
Yahtzee is a great traveler, taking up the passenger seat like she was born to ride there and is super good on a leash. She is not intimidated by new situations because she is just happy to be with you and sharing the moment. She lives to please and is such a quick learner, she is a no brainer for that person looking for a dog to go through life with. That one who, at the end of your life, you will remember as "the best dog ever".
Going on a hike? SUPER. There is no mountain to tall and she is not afraid to get wet, so let the adventure begin.
Going to the Brew Pub? EXCELLENT, she will sit with you watching all the people come and go, happily accepting pets from those who ask.
Going to the vet? GREAT. In the lobby, Yahtzee will sit right by your side or lay down and just watch all the activity and in the exam room, you can easily weigh her, trim her nails, check her teeth, her eyes, her ears and all her body parts, without her missing a single wag.
She loves grooming time, mealtime, training time and any time that includes you.
Her heart is huge and she loves with every last corner of it.
In her foster home, Yahtzee keeps a clean crate, and after a couple initial accidents, has picked up on housebreaking and done well. She is not a resource guarder, has great indoor manners (though she has not yet decided if she wants to give up counter surfing) loves a good nap on the couch but will happily curl up in a big chair with you, if there is room.. She would be thrilled to sleep near you at night but is used to being crated too.
Yahtzee has a great fun with her foster doggy friends, playing chase or tug or just wrasslin and runnin. She is forgiving of the grumpy dogs too, who might snark at her invitations to play plus she thinks cats are cool and has even been seen, washing their faces, if the kitty allows. During morning horse chores, Yahtzee loves to come along. She is more interested in exploring the pasture, than bothering the horses and is quick to come back when called which gives her a ton of potential as a trail riding partner as well.
Yahtzee also loves people but not to the point of inviting the burglars in to steal your silver. When her fostered had hay delivered, she joined her foster to meet the delivery truck but when the three strangers jumped out, she placed herself between her foster and the three men and turned her goofy face off. She looked to her foster mom for instructions and when she was told everything was OK, relaxed and trotted off, to explore but never went far and always kept an eye on things. Good girl Yahtzee.
There is nothing we have done with Yahtzee yet, that was problematic. She has a good temperament, a solid mind and looks to her humans for direction if in unfamiliar territory.
She also loves toys carrying them around with her. It is so cute, when she wants to talk to you with a big stuffed toy in her mouth, or her favorite dirty tennis ball.
So if you were looking for an outstanding family dog (toddlers might not appreciate her ever whipping tail) or a true friend through thick and thin, no matter what the day brings, Yahtzee is waiting to meet you. She can chill on the couch or hike the toughest trail. You call the day and Yahtzee says, "I'm down with that".
Given Yahtzee's keen mind and athletic ability, we are hoping for someone with dog experience, who will set boundaries and use balanced training. A good fence would also be a plus but we will consider other living situations too. She could be a great apartment dog, as long as there was plenty of walks and adventures. We just want this good girl to succeed and to belong to someone who is looking for a friend they can grow with, not a couch pillow or yard decoration. Some dogs are made for that existence. Yahtzee would be miserable. She was born to be part of your team.
Yahtzee is spayed, up to date on five way and rabies vaccinations, flea/tick treated, fecal tested and treated for parasites, microchipped and ready to rock your world with her charm, enthusiasm, smarts and great nature.
