Xena rests for a nano of a second to prop her paws on your lap and lay her head against your shoulder but the rest of her body parts are in constant movement and just as you start to think "how sweet" the wiggles start at her back end and quickly move forward to her front. She begins a slow creep then moves to a crawl and soon, she's all over you. Before you know what hit you, your hair is a tangled mess, your glasses are crooked, your clothes are disheveled and you're covered in slobber. You've been hit by Xennado.
Xena was picked up as a stray by St. Paul Animal Control and no one claimed her. She was offered up to rescues and even taken for an overnight but returned through no fault of her own. Animal Control had no choice but to give her a final date but that didn't seem to change any minds. Her enthusiasm for life really tugged at their heart strings so they sent out one last plea which landed her on New Leash's radar. We saw her potential and even though we didn't have room, we made it work.
At her foster home she is energetic, playful, great in her crate. She loves the other dogs but tends to get amped up when playing. She is an absolute angel in public and walks nicely on a leash. She is well mannered and greets both dogs and humans respectfully. At home is another story. She can be a little naughty if left to her own devices.
Xena's new family will need to continue working on correcting unwanted behavior using positive reinforcement and make sure to keep her socialized with dogs and other people.
She needs some work on obedience training. She does jump, scratch, play bite, make messes, demand attention and can still be destructive when bored.
Xena is up to date on vaccines, spayed, fecal tested and dewormed, heartworm tested including preventatives, as well as microchipped. She did have surgery to correct her cherry eye.
Adoption fee is $250.00 + tax (no checks)

Our fosters do the best they can to provide all information about the animal's background and temperament while in foster care in their home. An adopters routine and home environment are likely going to be different than that in their foster home.
Sometimes there is more that comes out about a dog's personality once they have been able to settle in a home and truly become comfortable. There are great articles out there written about the different stages a pet goes through after adoption, discussing transitions that happen at 3 days, 3 weeks, and 3 months. We highly recommend reading about this - it will help you understand the transition your new pet goes through.
