My Story
LOOKING FOR A CALM & QUIET HOME: Approx. 4 years old / Approx. 21 lbs.
Hi, my name is Xandi! I had a home, but after my home situation fell apart, I was shuffled around a bit and thankfully I was able to make my way to Mostly Mutts. I’m so glad I did, because they are committed to finding my furever family and for that I am grateful! I got to spend some time in the prison/foster program offsite and learned a lot! I was also adopted briefly, but things didn’t work out as I needed a calm home with a quiet and patient family.
• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I came in with another young dog and have met dogs at Mostly Mutts and – though I didn’t want to play with them – I had friendly interest in the more mellow dogs. When I was in the prison/foster training program, I played just a little bit with the mellow dogs. So, if you have a nice, calm doggie at home, let’s meet! / My previous owner reported that I was good with cats, so if you have a dog-friendly kitty at home, let’s meet and see if we can be pals. / I’m nervous and shy with people initially and a flight risk, so if there are kids in my new home, it’s best that they are older and know to give me space and time to get to know them as well as space when I am afraid of something.
• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I arrived at Mostly Mutts scared and unsure. Once the volunteers began working their magic, I slowly began to come out of my shell and a sweet little love bug emerged! I enjoy showing affection to the volunteers who care for me, and I also love to show them my zoomies when I get excited! When walking me, please keep a good hold of my leash as I am afraid of many things, and I don’t want to pull away and get lost or hurt. When I am unsure of something or someone, I may give a little growl to let you know that I’m uncomfortable, and I did snap a couple of times when volunteers reached behind to clip my leash and moved too quickly with me. MM has learned that sometimes I hear or see something that scares me and I’ll hide for a bit so that I can recover from that fear. I’m looking for a family that will give me the time I need to recover and let me work it out and then come out from my hiding place without being rushed. I am a sweet and playful friend who is also a cuddler once I know we are buddies! / My energy level is 5–7.
• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I am a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program, where I am learning lots of great doggie commands with my trainer. I’ve mastered the ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘stay’, ‘come’, ‘leave it’, ‘drop it’, and ‘place’ commands as well as how to use proper door etiquette and accept nice strangers without jumping. Currently I am making strides with my leash confidence. / I do well in my little room at the shelter. In the prison/foster training program, I did whine a bit when my trainer left me in a crate in his room though I improved with time. / My potty habits have been good on the shelter schedule and were good in my temporary home, so hopefully that will be the case in my new home too.
• LIKES/DISLIKES: Once I am comfortable with you, I warm up and will be your sweet furry friend. Sweet talk and Pup-Peroni treats go a long way. I also love toys and just need time to settle into a new situation, then I enjoy the company of my people. / Loud or sudden noises still startle me (like a closing door), and I would not be happy in a loud, busy type of home with lots of folks coming and going. Right now, I prefer to play inside where there are less unfamiliar noises and distractions. I would also not like it if I was left home alone for long periods of time. Otherwise, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, and training.
• MEDICAL: I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I’m on an inexpensive anxiety medication to help me feel more comfortable in my new environment.
I am looking for a loving, quiet and patient home where I will be a cherished member of the family! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.
