My Story
Willie has been having a blast and going on lots of adventures these past few weeks! His amazing foster parents were able to give us some great insight on his personality away from the shelter and how he does in a home. Here's what they had to say about Willie:
"Willie is an incredible boy who might seem shy at first, but give him a little time and he'll reveal his true, cuddly nature. Once he warms up to you, Willie becomes a loving and affectionate companion who adores snuggling.
Willie has a passion for the great outdoors; hiking, canoeing, and running are among his favorite activities. He's also a water lover, enjoying everything from dipping his toes, into splashing around like the happy boy he is. He's a fantastic travel buddy, too, often dozing off in the backseat during car rides!
Smart and eager to please, Willie knows basic commands like "sit," "down," and "stand." His quick learning ability means he can string together commands just to earn those extra treats. Willie is also cat-friendly. He might check in on his feline friends but quickly moves along, leaving them be and giving them space.
Willie truly shines when he's outside, where he relaxes the most. You'll see the real Willie, a calm and content dog, savoring all the wonderful scents nature has to offer. He loves engaging in mentally stimulating games with sniff mats, and treat-filled knots and his favorite, the orange food ball. He loves getting all the treats out of his ball.
Good with people and great with kids, Willie enjoys the attention and can be petted all over. He would thrive in either a big or small family setting. Willie likes being the center of attention, so a home without other dogs would be ideal.
While Willie loves being outside, he sometimes becomes mouthy when bored indoors. This can be managed with a bit of petting to calm him down or a short period of muzzle time, as he is muzzle trained. Willie is also crate trained and does well in his crate during the day, though he might cry a bit when it's bedtime.
Willie is an amazing dog who would flourish in an active family that can offer him plenty of outdoor time. If you're looking for a loyal, fun-loving companion, Willie might be the perfect match for you!"
Doesn't Willie sound like he could be an amazing best friend? We think so, too! The main thing with Willie is that he will need a person or family that has a lot of dog experience. Someone who is knowledgeable and has the time available to work through Willie's main issue of nipping/mouthing when he gets excited. He was a free roaming dog during his puppyhood, so he didn't get the socialization and training to outgrow his puppy biting stage. But we know, with a structured routine and some work, Willie will become an amazing companion. Could you give this loving boy his forever home?
