My Story

Adoption Pending!

William - puppy - 4 months old (May 1) - male - yellow plush coat - 45 pounds

William has captured the hearts of everyone who has met him, from his rescuer to his veterinarian, his foster mom and all her friends and family.

He is a big, dear Baby Huey kind of guy, with the kind of innocent vulnerability and earnest devotion that melts your heart. He wears himself out padding after his foster mom in a diligent effort to keep her company; sometimes he falls asleep on her feet when she is cooking, all tuckered out from keeping an eye on her.

A curious, trusting fellow, William is guilelessly affectionate. He has a truly gentle and compliant nature, and a happy and devoted disposition. His sense of devotion is touching in such a young pup, and as much as he enjoys his outings and excursions, he is always delighted to come home. William takes nothing for granted.

William has shining, warm brown eyes and a golden plush coat with white markings. He is long-bodied and sturdy, and he tries very hard to be careful, as if he is aware that he is awfully big already for a 4 month old puppy. Even in his most excited moments when he forgets and jumps up, he is gentle and mindful of his size; his foster mom characterizes his jumping up as more of "dancing" move.

William is a grateful, loving puppy. His trust and expectancy are credits to him, and they probably saved his life. He and his mother were found running down an Interstate, and sadly, his mother was struck by a car. Poor William, torn between fear and a desire to stay by his mother's body, ran back and forth across the highway, and finally hid in the woods. A Hedgesville Hounds team member who was on the scene managed to pull over and softly call to the frightened puppy, who came straight to her arms from his hiding place in a ravine.

William's days are filled with puppy pursuits - playing with the other dogs in his foster home, enjoining everyone he meets (including the cats) to play with him, chewing his toys, trying to learn not to chew things that are not his toys.

He loves to be held and cuddled, and will "drop and roll" on the spot for the promise of a belly rub. He is very observant, and watches the other dogs, whom he deeply admires, with keen attention. He is extremely intelligent, and very responsive, and will be a joy to train. He is truly a wonderful and special pup.
