My Story

Highlights: -Needs a confident canine sibling -Needs a fenced yard (4' minimum) -Patient, experienced adopters -Adult only home #### Meet Walter, our gentle six-year-old Toy Poodle who carries a tender heart in his tiny 8-pound frame. Walter is the epitome of shyness, often retreating to the back of his kennel to quietly observe the bustling world outside. Although he currently shies away from touch and the closeness of humans, shaking with anxiety, our dedicated enrichment and behavior team is nurturing him patiently, helping him learn to trust at his own pace. Walter finds joy in the company of other dogs, regardless of their size, and he thrives in the great outdoors, basking in the sunshine and relishing the warmth on his back. While he's still learning about leashes and treats, his curiosity about the world is slowly blossoming. For safety, Walter will need a secure home with a 5-foot fence and would do best with a confident canine companion to guide him and boost his confidence. His sweet eyes and love for the outdoors speak volumes about the soulful, loving friend he'll surely become. If you have room in your heart and home for this delicate soul, ready to learn and grow, Walter is waiting for his chance to thrive and show just how great he can be. ---- Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take a little extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, most of these dogs come around rather quickly and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience.
