My Story

Courtesy Posting: LAS CRUCES, NEW MEXICO- ID #75667 "CUBBY" AT ANIMAL SERVICES CENTER OF MESILLA VALLEY (ASCMV) X URGENT –ADORABLE, YOUNG 40 LB and VERY PEOPLE FRIENDLY CREAM CHOW BOY IN NEED OF PLACEMENT ASAP- DID WELL WITH MALE AND FEMALE DOGS IN PLAYGROUP- GOOD HOME, OR FOSTER AND RESCUE REQUESTED - SHELTER IS OVERFULL, WILL BE AT RISK FOR EUTHANASIA SOON- WHO CAN HELP? PLS CONTACT ROBIN FOR HELP OR WITH FOSTER INTEREST, CONTACT SHELTER TO ADOPT OR RESCUE ASAP This young man recently was found as a chipped and neutered stray, but his owner never showed. His stray hold ended 5/17 and he will be at risk for euthanasia soon per the shelter given lack of space. The shelter says "is very people friendly. " as he very likely needs rescue due being in an overfull, remote shelter, and rescues need fosters to usually help. The shelter also stated, "He did so well in the play group. Had we not given him this opportunity, I think he would have been label dog aggressive and not had many options. He might still have barrier reactivity and maybe even some reactivity to meeting new dogs on the leash, but from what we've learned from this past week, allowing him to play in a group setting might even correct some of this behavior after time. He met male and female dogs, both altered and unaltered. He still very much needs a rescue or adopter and is still at risk of euthanasia because he can't be kenneled with another dog right now. The space is small and although he did well in the play yard, he still might be leash/barrier reactive. He's one of those dogs that needs space and the potential for a fight to break out in the kennel, especially at night when no one is around, is high." However, we have nice videos we can share of him doing well with both dogs and people. We were told during intake, he did not do well when they tried to place him with a make kennel mate so they are playing it safe. A slow introduction with any dog is recommended and this probably was not done. Since no name was in his chip or age, the shelter estimates this petite boy is 3 years old and we are fondly naming him "Cubby”. Ideally, we would like to place in him in a home familiar with the breed. We are therefore not only looking for a responsible home to adopt, but we are also looking for a foster and rescue (or foster to adopt) for this dear boy before he is euthanized soon for space. If you are interested to adopt this deserving, friendly boy, please contact the shelter directly by calling (575) 382-0018 and ask about his ID. Rescue groups may also call or email [email protected]. If you may be interested in fostering for a rescue group, or fostering to adopt or helping in some other way, please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who can try to pair fosters with a willing rescue group. We will be posting updates, more pictures and videos on his facebook page at: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10165440227423125&id=783968124&mibextid=cr9u03 Note: to view contents of link you will need to copy and paste the link into your browser.
