My Story

Resident sweetheart and longterm resident Violet recently went for a weeklong sleepover with two of her volunteer besties, Amy and Tim! We learn SO much about the pups in our care when they get into a foster home. Violet has been waiting at our shelter for over three years, and it breaks our hearts. Here's what Violet's foster parents said about her during his first experience in a home... Violet's Vibe: We were totally surprised by what a calm and loving guest Violet was. We expected her to be a ball of untamed energy, based on our time walking her at Pets Alive. She remained her loving self but almost immediately calmed down when we brought her home. Violet loved to shower us with kisses! Exercise: When we instigated play, Violet was the silliest goofball. B when it was time to relax she calmed down super quickly. We took her on a couple short walks a day, and she especially loved wandering around the woods in our backyard. She almost never pulled on the leash, and was very well behaved when we took her into town to meet new people. While she enjoyed outside time, she was also happy to relax all day. Toys: Violet would often bring us a toy to play fetch with when she got excited. She also loved chewing on her Nylabone and rope toys. Potty Training: During the whole week she was with us, Violet never had a single accident in the house. Crate Training: Violet would sometimes choose to rest in her crate during the day. At night, we put her in the crate. Looking back, we wish we had given her a chance to prove that she would be fine without a crate. She was never destructive and gave us nothing to be concerned about. Food + Treats: Violet was pretty good at eating her meals. She showed only occasional interest in treats and very mild curiosity about human food. By the end of the week, we could easily sit next to her on the couch and eat tempting food without her giving it a second thought. Fears: Violet was jumpy about sudden movements and sounds, but we were impressed with how brave she was as she got used to all the things in her new environment. "Violet loved her vacation and wasn't ready to go back to the kennel. She resisted going through the front doors of the shelter and it broke our hearts. She was a wonderful guest. ** Please Note ** Our pet listings update automatically every 4 hours, so they are as current as possible.
