My Story

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision-making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Vero, 1 year old, spayed female labrador retriever mix, 41 pounds. Vero is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! Vero is in a home with two small female dogs (10 and 20lbs) and had no issues meeting or playing with the girls, although she can play pretty rough. She's still a puppy so her play skills are still being learned but she is never aggressive and has begun to pick up on when to leave other dogs alone. She's very friendly to dogs and humans alike. She doesn't have any issues with sharing toys or food and does not need to have a canine sibling - she is confident enough on her own. Matter of fact, Vero is an absolute lover - she jumps up for hugs and kisses, will climb up into your lap and lay her head down for pets. She's cuddly and affectionate and has never met a stranger, everyone is a friend she just hasn't kissed yet! Vero lives with two kids aged 8y and 10y, and had no issues at all. In general, we recommend homes with kids over the age of 10y or those who can understand and will respect animal behavior cues. She does live in a home with cats and has improved in her behavior around them. She initially enjoyed chasing and barking at them, but now is calmer and leaves them be. Vero is leash, house and crate trained. She is exuberant when first getting to go outside so she may dart forward but she settles down quickly and walks with ease. She alerts when she needs to go outside and has not had any accidents in the home, and is quiet once in her kennel. She does need (or demand, your choice) to be lured into the kennel with a treat but she has no issues once in. She knows sit and throws paws and will do nearly anything for a treat. She lets you dress her up in silly costumes and doesn't fuss with them at all. Vero enjoys playing with toys and would thrive in an active home with lots of outlets for her energy - walks/hikes, doggy day care or play dates, puzzles, etc. She could benefit from some basic training - she is still a puppy so she jumps up a lot and can get into things she shouldn't - but overall, Vero will be the perfect dog for the luckiest family! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt her?
