My Story

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Venus, 5yr old spayed female, labrador retriever/hound mix, 50 pounds. Venus is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! Venus proves that even older dogs have tons of spunk and life in them! Her foster describes her as one of the most energetic dogs she's met and would thrive in a home with a canine sibling. She plays with lots of dogs at the dog park and gets along with every one, all at least her weight or much larger. She keeps up with the Bellas and Buddys, but does forget to read their cues of being done playing. Venus is leash, house and crate trained to much success. She hasn't had any issues meeting other dogs on a leash but will pull and whine to go say hello. She pulls on the leash but is easily redirected home; a Gentle Leader head collar or harness may help with leash skills in lieu of training, which is always a good idea. Venus has not had any accidents in the house and is often curled up napping when her foster is at home. She usually stays crated when unable to be supervised because she loves nothing more than re-making the bed for her foster mom, tossing pillows and blankets to and 'fro. Venus does have some separation anxiety (she pants and paces, barks and howls) when left alone so crating has been super helpful to her foster mom. Venus has not been around kids but given her energy and constant movement, she would likely do best in a home with kids over the age of 10yrs. She occasionally scratches out of playful excitement and may inadvertently knock over a young child. No matter the age, we recommend homes with kids who can understand and will respect animal behavior cues. Venus is not good with cats. Venus is overall smart, playful, curious and silly. She love attention and if she doesn’t get enough, she demand it in a sweet and playful manner. She loves tennis balls and ropes for tug of war, often losing herself in play and forgetting other dogs are around. She is the most cuddly and affectionate dog ever, and loves meeting new people. She treats each new person as a new friend she's just not kissed yet. She loves to jump up for cuddles and affection (if you let her), car rides, and exploring like the adventurous girl she is. She would be perfect for someone with a backyard and children. She is not an outside dog and is most comfortable sleeping on the bed underneath the blankets. She needs a lot of attention but she will not act out if she does not get it ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt her?
