Velvet

This handsome boy is Velvet. He is a 5-Month-old terrier mix who will be medium sized(40-50lbs) full grown. The cards were stacked against him from the beginning, but he is a survivor. He and his siblings were dropped off at the shelter in St Thomas when they were about 2 days old. They were bottle fed by the amazing volunteers and made their way to Pet Search. Once in foster care with Pet Search, his foster mom noticed that he was having a lot of " reflux and vomiting". Off to the vet he went, a swallowing test was done, and it was suspected he had Mega esophagus. To confirm the diagnosis an appointment was made at Ohio state veterinary hospital. On February 13th, it was confirmed that he indeed has mega esophagus, a disease which is treatable by dietary adjustments using elevated feedings and eventually a baily chair. He was also started on an oral medication which seems to be helping. Because of abnormal bloodwork during the visit an abdominal ultrasound was performed. His foster mom received the devastating news that he had juvenile kidney disease which there is no real treatment at this point. Despite these conditions, Velvet is a happy playful dog who loves life. It is anticipated that his life expectancy will not be as long as his sibling, so we are looking for a forever foster for this awesome boy.
