My Story

Sweet, silly, and happy-go-lucky Velma is thrilled to be in rescue and seeking her furever home! She was found as a stray, underweight and with a case of mange that’s left her with a hairless face. Now that she’s getting lots of groceries and the proper treatment, her fur is starting to return, and we can’t wait to see her smile transform into a great big FLUFFY grin! Velma knows that she’s a lucky girl, and therefore is always in a good mood! She enjoys being silly with her toys, turkey treats, laying on the tile floor by the AC vent, playing with other dogs and her humans, and winding down with snuggles! Velma gets along great with other dogs, especially larger ones - small dogs seem to confuse her (“He smells like a dog, but WHERE’S THE REST?!”). Overall, she prefers to be inside, and she is quieter than most Pyrs, only barking when she hears another dog bark first. When she is outside, she has mountains of fun in running around the yard chasing bunnies and birds. This friendly lady is crate trained, jumps into the car willingly, and is learning to walk on leash (she’s doing very well too!). She is always smiling, loving to go on adventures and exploring the town. This social gal loves meeting anyone and everyone while she’s out visiting public places. You best be prepared to offer this affectionate girl plenty of lovin’, or she will put her Pyr Paw to good use! Velma loves her humans and becomes loyal very quickly. Her ideal home will be with an active family that has a 5’ fenced-in yard, at least one other dog to play with, and where the humans are home more often than not. If you’re looking for a happy and fun-loving companion that enjoys a good cuddle, look no further than Velma! NYS Registered Rescue # RR102 NGPR dogs are in foster homes at the location specified on their full listing. View the full listing (with location, fee and application link) at HTTPS://NATIONALPYR.ORG/ADOPTABLE-DOGS Completion of an application is required to be considered for any dog. Please fill out the application on our website and we will contact you. HTTPS://NATIONALPYR.ORG/ADOPTION-APPLICATION/ Due to the high level of interest we can't respond to emails unless an application has been submitted. Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature (www.nationalpyr.org/know-the-breed) and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority. Secure VISIBLE fencing is required; invisible fencing WILL NOT contain this breed.
