My Story

At 1 1-2 or 2 years old, Van deserves a break after being at the rescue for more than a year, a significant portion of his short life. Originally acquired as a puppy by owners who had good intentions but were unable to care for him due to their severe obesity, they were physically incapable of walking, training, or engaging with him. This was especially challenging given Van's Mastiff Mix breed, a choice that remains puzzling. Consequently, they made the decision to surrender him when he was barely a year old. Van's size and excitability is intimidating to some, therefore Van is ALWAYS overlooked at the rescue. He sits in his cage day after day waiting for someone to engage with him. But once Van gets out in the yard, he's a fun, goofy, sweet dog. He's just big! Van is a GREAT car rider, good on leash, and he knows how to sit and obey a few other commands. He's just a big lug with lots of love to give and does not realize his size. Several of our volunteers take Van on walks and just LOVE HIM!! In search of a caring home, Van is eager to learn, enjoys human company, and is likely to get along with other dogs in the household. He is essentially a big, playful dog who has spent a considerable amount of time confined to a kennel. It is unfair for him to be abandoned and left at the rescue center indefinitely. If you are a confident dog savvy person with some time to devote to Van, please consider him. You will not regret welcoming him into your life.
