My Story

PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION IN THE DOG'S PROFILE, AS WELL AS THE INFORMATION ON OUR WEBSITE BEFORE EMAILING US WITH QUESTIONS. Our Volunteers use up valuable time answering questions, when the answers are readily available on our website. Our adoptions come with 30 days of free post-adoption support through Petcademy.org. We are a foster-based rescue. We do not have a facility. MEET & GREETS FOR DOGS IN ONTARIO WILL ONLY BE ARRANGED ONCE AN ADOPTION APPLICATION IS APPROVED. THANK YOU!!! Please visit our website for more information: https://www.niagaradogrescue.com/ or fill in our adoption application: https://niagaradogrescue.com/adoption-application.php OUT-OF-TOWN Dogs with NDR refer to dogs we have saved that have yet to make their journey to Ontario. These dogs are currently in our care with the help of our partners in the area. These dogs will all travel to the Niagara Region once an appropriate adopter or local foster is found. This dog is currently located in: Texas Name: Valka (20240614-05) Weight: 31 lbs Age: 5 Years old (Est DOB: 2-14-2019) Gender: Female Spayed/Neutered: yes Breed: Jindo Mix Color: Cream Neck (for collar): 15" Chest circumference (for harness): 24" Height (from top of head): 20" Length (from nose to base of tail): 26" Crate Size recommended: 42" (size she is in now. Will fit in 36") Good With Adults: Yes Good With Kids: Yes, lived with a little girl that loved her in her previous home Good With other Dogs: Yes Good With Cats: Her kennel is next to a cat kennel and she plays with them through the crates. Cats play back. My cats have to stay in kennels because of too many unfriendly dogs. I was told there was a cat at her previous home. House trained: She has to be in a kennel at my foster house. But she had a previous home for 5 years and she was inside/outside. Crate Trained: Yes Energy Level: Medium. She is very playful. She makes her rounds to lots of the other kennels inside and outside Can be handled/touched: Yes, she is jumpy at first so best to go slow to start.. let her smell and check you out. Best not to try to move fast when meeting her for the first time… she needs to let you know its ok Barker: Not a lot Flight Risk: No Food Aggressive: No, not that I have seen. She eats in her kennel alone. Current Food: Diamond mixed with Purina Dog Chow How Much and Often: 2 Cups a day 1 time a day due to my schedule Walks on Leash: Yes Rides well in car: She rides very well in a crate in the car. Destructive: No Needs Home with Yard: Yes, she is in a fenced yard here. But ran free at her previous home. As long as she can go out to potty she would rather be inside. Needs Home with another Dog: Plays with siblings and foster siblings here. So used to having a playmate, but loves people attention so as long as she gets plenty of attention she would probably be happy. Can live in Apartment: No Foster Insights/ Backstory: Valka came to me in really bad shape. Valka had a family and a little girl that loved her. Her family had her for at least 5 years but unfortunately they were evicted and left the pets behind. The neighbor that reached out for help told me the little girl was crying as they were leaving for her dog. I named her Valka as we do not know her original name. The neighbor reached out when the landlord came over and was going to shoot all the animals on property. Valka was scared so the neighbor was able to earn her trust and catch her. He was determined to save this small girl. I got her in February and she was very scared and snippy. She is now happy and healthy and ready to find a loving safe family to give her the life she deserves!
