My Story

Can you be Valentino's valentine? Valentino is a super handsome 1 year old male dog who came to ACCT Philly on 12/26 as a stray after he was found running around on a busy highway. This sweet young man has so much love to give you this Valentine's day. He would prefer to be in an adult only home, only due to the fact that he has not been enjoying our accommodations here in the shelter and w=would like a calmer environment to destress and curl up with someone who can show him what a safe loving home is. Read what Valentino's friends have to say about him: Per Foster 3/12: Valentino is a very loving guy who just wants to be by your side. Can be timid when first meeting you, but he will quickly warm up. Once he warms up, he is a very playful, wiggly and affectionate dog. He likes to play with other dogs of all shapes and sizes. He also is great around kids, my neighbors 6 year old twins love him! He is house trained, loves walks, and does great when left home for a couple hours. Per volunteer on 1/17: Valentino would be the fur-fect Valentine for the one you love! He's a quiet shy guy, who after he warms up, loves to sit in your lap and look adoringly at you! He's not much for leash walking, but she's getting the hang of leading people outside. Valentino needs someone to scoop him up, give him a week or two of quiet, steady attention and you will have a wonderful Pupper. He's housetrained, loves other dogs (only time I see his tail move) and handed all over touching. Loves to be hugged. You just need to go slow, he's shy. Staff 1/17 noted: Has been making strides with a volunteer who has been coming in to walk him everyday. He wagged his tail for her a few days ago and was happily walking around outside with her. She spends time sitting at the end of his kennel door, coaxing him slowly to trust her and come out. Per Volunteer 1/14: Super terrified in the kennels. allowed me to leash him while he was laying down. With some leash pressure he got up and came with me, but pancaked halfway through the kennels so I carried him out which he allowed no problem. Outside definitely warmed up when he saw other dogs. After a few minutes he came to me and solicited pets. Super sweet guy, needs some time to warm up. Per Staff 12/28: Valentino gave low wags and greeted the other dog very nicely for their dog meet. He was eager to say hello but respectful as she was pretty nervous. He stayed calm and well mannered, gently sniffed her. We brought a third dog in after and he was pretty nervous to approach, wasn't as interested in interacting with him. The third dog was being quite playful and Valentino did low growl at one point but redirected without issue. Per Staff 12/27: We brought Valentino outside for playgroup. He would not walk on leash, so an ACA had to carry him to the yard. Once in the yard, he was pretty fearful at first. He approached nonthreatening calm dogs and wanted to follow them around. He seemed as though he was looking for guidance. The more time he was in the yard, he was warming up to the dogs and became more confident. He even ran around a little bit and did some romping with the other dogs. Per Staff 12/27: Valentino is a sweet but very fearful boy. He had little interest in exploring the room, sniffed around for a minute and then sat down nearby me. He kept his head low and avoided eye contact but wanted to be nearby. He allowed all handling from me but remained tense. He had some curiosity and sniffed me a bit while I wasn't looking at him. No interest in treats. When Medical Staff first evaluated Valentino he was found to be scared, but friendly, and in overall good health. On 1/4 When staff assessed him again, he was found to be very scared and cowering in the back of his kennel and he was treated with Gabapentin. On 1/5 It was determined that Valentino had contract a "doggy cold or upper respiratory infection and he was prescribed Doxycycline. Can you come meet Valtnino and show him what the good stuff is?! We'll bring the Cupid's arrows and you can fall in love with this handsome fella!
