My Story

Tyson came from a shelter in NE Iowa. He had been there for about a month and getting depressed. Shelter life is hard on a dog. So Waverly Pet Rescue has taken him in and he is now in a volunteer home. He is up-to-date on shots, heartworm negative, and neutered.

Tyson is an 18-month-old German Shepard/Mastiff mix. He weighs about 90 pounds, but is 90 pounds of love! Tyson is one of the sweetest dogs you could ever meet. He has not shown any aggression and wants to be everyone's friend! Tyson is housetrained and will go to the door when he needs to go out. While outside he runs and plays and will come back inside when called. He has so far stayed in the yard and has went for a couple swims in the pond. Tyson has not jumped and knows that he needs to sit at the door before being let out. He also knows to go lay down when asked. He will need to be worked with on a leash, as he pulls quite a bit, but a harness for him would help this as well. Tyson has done very well with the other dogs and will play with them. He is very gentle with children, but when he is outside and excited he might accidentally knock over young children, and we will work with him on this. Tyson is not good with cats. We are still working with him, but it will take awhile, if ever, to get him over this since its in his breeds to chase cats. He has not been trying to hurt them or anything, but he does pester them and chase them if they run. Other than that he is a good boy. He is a well behaved dog that appears to have been trained in the past. He listens well to stern tones and will come to you when called. He likes to play fetch and play tug of war with rope toys. Tyson would make a great pet!

8/26/08 UPDATE: Tyson is getting better with the cats. He is still not perfect with them, but the chasing has stopped, now he just follows them around. He is still a puppy in behavior so when they run from him and try to play with him he thinks he needs to play back, but we will keep working with him and see if we can get him to be okay with cats on a regular basis.

8/29/08 UPDATE: My favorite thing about Tyson is his facial expressions! When Tyson is happy and wagging his tail, he looks like he is smiling at you. He also has a very sweet and convincing sad puppy face. When he wants you to pet him, he comes over to you, sits down, and partially looks at the floor and looks at you with this sad little face that is so hard to resist. He is just adorable! Tyson loves to play in the water, and he loves to play fetch. He is more of a submissive dog and now lets the small dogs and one of the cats tell him what to do. He may be a big boy, but he is a big softie. Tyson would do okay in a home with cats as long as he was introduced to them properly. He is not mean to the cats, he just wants to play. When the cats are teasing him, he plays with them like he is a cat as well and forgets he is a larger dog, but he will stop playing with the cats immediately when asked. It appears Tyson was never introduced to cats prior to coming to our house, so it took him a couple weeks to figure out what they were all about. He is a very obedient dog and just wants to please! He would make a great companion!

Will someone please adopt Tyson and give this big boy a forever home? $95.00 adoption fee. (his vet bill was about $95, that is why his adoption fee is $95)

WE ARE NOT A SHELTER. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first. If you have questions or want to request an application, please send an email to the email address listed. All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues.
