Tusca is a beautiful female purebred Great Pyrenees. She is 8 months old and still has some growing to do. Her good natured personality and friendliness make her ideal for the home prepared for a large companion. She is fostered with a puppy named Barrett (also on our Pet List) and as you can see from the picture, they get along great. Tusca loves everybody and gets along with all dogs and even cats.
Here's what one of her foster mom's wrote about her. "Tusca is a beautiful 9-10 month old great pyrenees puppy. She is very affectionate, mellow and loves to be around children. (She doesn't seem to be bothered by the commotion they create.) She is good with kids of all ages, but due to her size/age it would be best to watch her around really small children. She is very smart and is a fast learner. She knows some basic commands, such as 'sit', 'shake', 'come' and 'stay', but will need someone to continue working with her on basic obedience. She doesn't jump up on adults or children. She goes to the door the majority of the time when she needs to potty. She is not crate-trained and does not do well being left alone in the house ... but is happy to sleep on the floor next to the bed at night with a baby-gate on the bedroom door ... (when confined to the bedroom with you at night, she will whimper in the morning to let you know that she needs to potty). She is happier outside while no one is at home, or is not inside the house with her, but when someone is home, she is happier to be inside around everyone. She doesn't chew while you're with her, but she is still a puppy, thus will chew things if left alone (even for a brief period). (The use of baby gates works well with her.) She does know how to work horizontal door handles and will happily open the door to browse inside, or help herself to her treats. (Though, she never got into anything that wasn't hers, or tore into any of her treats if they weren't already opened.) She does well around dogs of all sizes and with cats. She does have more of a dominant personality when it comes to food and possibly older/submissive dogs (inside the home, not when she meets them in public). She loves to sleep on her back and is happy to snuggle up next to you or the kids while watching a movie. She does well with being bathed in a tub and loves being brushed/groomed. She does enjoy barking at new sounds while in the back yard and has shown that she can easily catch squirrels. She has dug a couple of holes in the backyard, but I'm not convinced that this is something that she would continue as we have a lot of gopher activity in our backyard and our 9 yr old lab, (who has never been one to dig), has now started to dig to get to them. While she is a laid-back girl, she still has periods of fun puppy playfulness (hops arounds, not jumping on you), but will settle down when told to ... and can nip (not hard to break skin) if you get her really excited during play. She's still a puppy, so she will need a patient, understanding, loving family who will spend time training her ... she's already about 75-80% there with her training."
